The second-hand marketplace Users Voice Displeasure Over Sizing Updates
Vinted users have been reacting angrily after an update resulted in products showing incorrect sizing.
This online marketplace has updated its size classifications for female and kids' apparel but did not contact all users about the change.
Digital Channels Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are expressing on platforms claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category than originally posted due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the revised method more closely matches comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to review their products and adjust the sizing manually when needed, resulting in member annoyance.
Size Classification Modifications
Before the change, the sizing featured one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The revised method features a letter and a range like S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size was previously a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.
Shopper Experiences
A fashion influencer, who creates plus-size fashion videos, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
A different member, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.
"If anyone [who is] size 20-22 buys them they're going to be very disappointed," she said.
Manual Updates
Another shopper, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizes on "every single listing".
"For me this is particularly frustrating, because of my ongoing medical condition and Vinted sales have been crucial for me since losing part of my income," she explained.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has become a favored option to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This represents another occasion when a surprising modification to the app has proved unpopular: last year, the platform withdrew an update concerning shipment methods due to shopper criticism.
