Area Law Enforcement
Roughly fifty cars have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Police say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior official said the incident left him speechless and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
